Why do my voicemails show up late

Why is this? I should be getting voicemails within minutes after someone calls me. Lately, I have been getting voicemails hours or days after they were first left for me.

The only symptom I can come up with is when I call my cell phone from my land line, it pushes through all the hanging voicemails. They are there, hung on the system somehow.
