All internships are unpaid, but we will work with you to obtain academic credit from your college or university. Across the Sanctuary's campus, volunteers play an integral role in orienting visitors, maintaining trails, repairing stone walls, weeding and harvesting gardens, supporting education and camp programs, and much more.

Norman Bird Sanctuary offers seven miles of unique trails that meander throughout a diverse array of habitats and ecosystems. Learn to spot native species, identify plants, and see what you find along the way. This free public program requires no registration, and will meet in the Norman Bird Sanctuary parking lot ten minutes prior to the walk. Established in 1949 through a bequest made by Mabel Norman Cerio, Norman Bird Sanctuary was to maintain the land “for the propagation, preservation, and protection of birds, and where birds and bird life may be observed, studied, taught, and enjoyed by lovers of nature and by the public generally so interested in a spirit of humanity and mercy.The Norman Bird Sanctuary, nestled on Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island, was established in 1949 due to the generous bequest of Mabel Norman Cerio.
