It's possible to go from closed to a baby overnight, or be partially dilated for weeks. I wasn't checked until I was induced at 36+2, and I was already 3 cm and 75% effaced.

Yep! 3cm and 80% effaced from 36 weeks to when I was induced at 39+6. It's nice to be dilated that way if you do get induced you shouldn't need cervical ripener.
